STAGES
Lucidity Main Stage
Engineered and festival proven
The Lucidity Main Stage is a signature Flying Shade build originally created for the Lucidity Festival. It is a proven design with real world performance across multiple event seasons, built to support professional production demands while delivering an iconic visual identity.
This structure is not a concept rendering. It is a field tested system with engineering stamps and established build procedures. The result is a reliable, high impact centerpiece that reads as both architecture and artwork, with layered fabric forms, bamboo framework, and a bold proscenium style front that frames performers and lighting.
A key portion of the architectural design was developed in collaboration with architect and industry legend Gregg Fleishman, bringing deep structural insight and refined architectural language into the system. This collaboration helped shape a stage that balances expressive form with sound engineering principles.
The stage creates a clear focal point for your event, anchors audience flow, and elevates the production environment for artists, speakers, and ceremony. It can be deployed as a full main stage experience or adapted to fit site needs, production goals, and theming.

SHADE
One Cell Shade
Base Unit of Measurement
The One Cell Shade is the foundational building block of the Flying Shade system. Every larger structure is composed by combining, extending, or modifying this core unit.
A cell is a square bamboo frame with a tensioned fabric canopy, designed to be structurally sound on its own while seamlessly integrating into multi-cell configurations. This modular approach allows clients to think in clear, repeatable units when planning shade coverage.
Cell dimensions
Shade canopy: 17 ft × 17 ft
This dimension defines the usable shaded area of a single cell
Footprint
Overall footprint: 33 ft × 33 ft
Includes bamboo kickers that extend 8 ft outward around the perimeter, increasing width and length by 16 ft
What a cell represents
The base unit of measurement for all Flying Shade structures
A repeatable module used to scale shade environments up or down
The reference point for planning layouts, coverage, and site fit
System notes
Cells can stand alone or connect on any side
Half-cell triangles are created by folding a cell in half
Cells can support embellishments such as walls, backdrops, drop ceilings, and layered canopies
Proven bamboo and tensioned fabric system used across festivals, parks, and special events
When a structure is described as 9 cells, 10 cells, or 14 cells, it refers directly to how many of these 17 ft × 17 ft units are combined to form the canopy. This keeps ordering, planning, and scaling intuitive while allowing for expressive, sculptural variation.

PORTALS
Area Portals and Event Gateways
Flying Shade Event Portals, also known as Area Portals or Banner Stands, are sculptural entry structures that mark transitions, welcome guests, and define space within an event. They are visual anchors that tell people, without words, that they are entering a new area to experience.
A portal can signal an entrance, highlight a featured area, frame a vendor zone, guide circulation, or create a ceremonial threshold. Guests intuitively gather at them, take photos, pause, and orient themselves. They become landmarks and meeting points while quietly organizing the flow of people.
Each portal allows for a wide range of forms, sizes, and aesthetics. Some are bold and celebratory, others minimal and elegant. Portals can feel playful, ceremonial, whimsical, earthy, or architectural depending on the event’s tone.
They are commonly used for festival entrances, themed zones, bike valet areas, food courts, art installations, sponsor features, and community gatherings. Fabric, banners, signage, and custom graphic elements can be integrated to clearly communicate what lies beyond the threshold.
No two portals are the same. Designs are tailored to the site, the audience, and the story the event wants to tell.
What Portals do
Mark entrances and transitions between spaces
Create visual hierarchy and way-finding
Establish theme and atmosphere at first glance
Provide iconic landmarks and photo moments
Help guests intuitively navigate an event
Design flexibility
Custom scale from intimate gateways to large ceremonial frames
Adaptable for festivals, markets, civic events, and private gatherings
Compatible with signage, banners, flags, and fabric elements
Styles ranging from rustic and organic to bold and theatrical
Portals are not just structures. They are moments of arrival.
