Giant modular shade with a wide winged canopy
The Enchanted Owl Shade is a large-scale, sculptural shade environment designed to feel protective, expansive, and quietly powerful. With a broad wingspan and a balanced, symmetrical layout, it creates the feeling of being gathered beneath something watchful and intentional.
Built using Flying Shade’s cell system, the Enchanted Owl is composed of 14 cells, each measuring 17 × 17 feet. These cells are arranged to form a strong central canopy with extended, wing-like edges that give the structure its iconic silhouette.
From below, the canopy reads as a patchwork of color and light. From above, the overall form reveals its namesake, a winged shape that evokes an owl in flight. The geometry remains clear and legible while the outer edges taper and angle outward to create visual lift and presence.
Triangular sections are created by folding square cells in half, allowing the structure to form angled wing tips and tapered edges while remaining fully modular and scalable within the same system.
Dimensions and layout logic
The overall footprint accounts for angled bamboo support braces, referred to as kickers, which extend approximately 8 feet outward around the full perimeter of the canopy. This increases both the width and length of the structure by 16 feet and should be included when planning site layout, circulation, and clearances.
